Volunteer Opportunity -
Commencement
|
 |
Be a Part of Commencement
Volunteers make a good day better for UCR graduates |
|
It takes five ceremonies and a countless
number of volunteers to make sure that each of the more than 3,000
students who represent the Class of 2005 has a memorable moment when
walking across the stage during UCR's 51st commencement ceremonies.
Each year alumni, parents and friends of the University are invited to
join faculty and staff to take part in the celebration by volunteering
to register graduates, assist with the lineup and procession, sell
program books and greet and assist guests during the five
ceremonies.
Volunteers receive a commencement t-shirt and will be honored at a
reception at a later date.
To volunteer you may go to the Commencement
Volunteer Web site and sign up online, or contact Evelyn Starr at evelyn.starr@ucr.edu or (951) 827-3144.

Campus Celebrates Opening of UCR Palm Desert |

|
|
Thanks in large part to a $6 million campaign donation made by entrepreneur and
UCR Trustee Richard J. Heckmann, founder of USFilter Corporation, UC Riverside
campus officials and Coachella Valley community leaders recently celebrated the
opening of UCR Palm Desert. Capping four years of planning and construction, the
milestone event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony for two new buildings where
the first class of students in the Master of Business Administration and Master
of Fine Arts programs will roam the halls this fall.
More than 70 executives from the Coachella Valley area have already signed on to
lecture at the Richard J. Heckmann International Center for Entrepreneurial
Management. The MBA program has places for 40 students. Two $25,000 annual
scholarships, donated by two local couples, will be available to war veterans
who enroll in the program. The fine arts program is open to 15 students who will
study writing for the stage, screen and television at the Education Center.
To find out more about the exciting plans for UCR Palm Desert, or for enrollment
or donation information, go to
www.palmdesert.ucr.edu
or contact Dr. Ken Walters, Executive Director at
ken.walters@ucr.edu or 760/341-6221.
